The
Function of the Coroners office is to determine cause and manner
in any death that is unexpected or unexplained.
The function
of the Coroners office is to determine cause and manner when a person
dies:
- As a result
of violence
- By suicide
or casualty
- Suddenly
when in apparent good health
- When unattended
by a physician
- In any suspicious
or unusual manner, with particular attention to those persons
16 years of age and under.
- After birth
but before seven years of age if the death is unexpected or unexplained.
- As a result
of an execution carried out pursuant to the death penalty
- When an inmate
of a state hospital or a state, county, or city penal institution
- After having
been admitted to a hospital in an unconscious state and without
regaining consciousness within 24 hr of admission.

Mike Adams, Coroner
The
county currently employees one Coroner and one Deputy Coroner. The
deputy Coroner does the same job as the Coroner in his absence.
The
Coroner is elected at large to 4 year terms. Mike Adams has served
as Coroner since Jan. 1992
;is an active member of Georgia Coroners Association since 1993,
served as District Director in 2000-2002. He is currently serving
the Association as 2nd Vice President.
and for the past 4 years served as chairperson on the state mandated
Hart County Child Fatality Review Committee.
